Powered by timely hitting, the Holguin Cubs defeated the Granma Alazanes, securing their second victory of the 65th Cuban National Baseball Series.
In this matchup, the team from the “City of Parks” had to come from behind to claim a 12-5 victory at Calixto García Stadium.
The visitors got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the first inning thanks to home runs by Alexquemer Sánchez and Darian Palma.
However, Lugdis Pineda’s squad staged a comeback. Capitalizing on the lack of control shown by starting pitcher Alexei Ricardo to score three runs on just a single hit.
The game remained tight until the fourth inning, when Carlos Barrabí Jr. ignited the Cubs’ offense with a home run. He was later followed by Rolando Veranes in the seventh (with two runners on base) and Lázaro Cedeño in the eighth (also with two aboard).
Moreover the Cubs’ power was on full display in this game. Despite the absence of their star player, Yasiel González, from the starting lineup—though he was present with the team.
Jesús Quintán deserves special recognition for his performance. He earned the win after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing only three hits.
