Holguin Announces Second Edition of the “To the Rhythm of His Music” Competition

With the firm purpose of celebrating the work of Holguin composer René Núñez Rodríguez. Showcasing the rich sonic universe that distinguishes the province. The Iberoamerican House officially launched the call for entries for the second edition of the “To the Rhythm of His Music” performance competition.

At a press conference held at the headquarters of the prestigious cultural institution. It details of this competition were presented. It is conceived not only as a platform to promote Núñez Rodríguez’s songs. But also as a showcase of the vocal diversity of the City of Parks.

The genesis of this event stems from the local composer’s constant creative drive. As René Núñez Rodríguez himself explained to the provincial media. The seed of the project was planted after a moment of collective inspiration.

“After a final of ‘Singing with the Mariachi,’ I had the idea to write songs for various genres. So that’s how the idea for this new competition came about,” the composer commented.

Moreover the only requirement for the competition is that the works to be performed belong to the author’s unpublished catalog. Beyond that, contestants will have complete freedom to adapt the pieces to their preferred musical genre. As long as they remain faithful to the original lyrics.

The competition auditions will take place this August at the local House of Music. The selection process will be overseen by a jury comprised of renowned specialists and institutions from the region.

Also the competition is inclusive: performers of all ages, both amateur and professional are welcome to participate. Promoting musical development within the Holguin community.

Those who advance through the elimination rounds will earn the right to perform. During the competitive galas scheduled from October 26th to 28th, a highlight of the 32nd Ibero-American Culture Festival.

Finally the event will culminate with the presentation of the Grand Prize for Best Performance. Along with other awards recognizing emerging and established talent. Beyond the competitive aspect, “Al compás de su música” (To the Rhythm of Their Music). It aims to establish itself as a vital space for exchange and convergence among creators, performers, and the Holguin public.
