Time has transformed the home of Ángel Castro and Lina Ruz’s family into a complex declared a National Monument. Comprising the family house, a small school, a post office, a cockfighting arena, and a small hotel. Every corner of the place, located in the municipality of Cueto, jealously guards the adventures of his childhood and adolescence. After his death on November 26th, 2016, at the age of 90. Biran transcended with Fidel into eternity as the place where he cemented his ideals. And the values of solidarity, altruism, and modesty that accompanied him throughout his life.
New generations have embraced the site as a paradigm for remembering this revolutionary and disseminating his ideology. Among progressive youth worldwide, for whom he showed the way forward.
Today, Biran continues to be a place of encounter with the Fidel who is reborn in every project. Aimed at well-being, development, and social equality—the banners of his ideals for all peoples.
That birth, on August 13th, 1926, 100 years ago, inscribed the town in history as the starting point in the life of a man who renounced his comforts in defense of the poor. And became—unintentionally—one of the greatest Cubans of all time.
