China Urges US Not to Slander Relations with Cuba

China on Monday called on the United States not to slander relations between other countries. Reiterated its support for Cuba’s defense of its sovereignty against external interference.

In response to a question from Prensa Latina, the Office of the Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Beijing has repeatedly expressed its firm position on issues related to the archipelago.

The office called on Washington to lift sanctions and the blockade against the Caribbean nation as soon as possible. And to stop repeatedly slandering other countries.

It emphasized that cooperation between China and Cuba is open and legitimate and rejected accusations against these ties. It also affirmed that Beijing will continue to firmly support Havana. In defending its national sovereignty and opposing external interference.

As part of its hostile policy of harassment against Cuba, the United States announced new sanctions last week. Against five state entities and eight officials of the Caribbean nation.

According to the State Department statement, the new measures target companies and officials linked to the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. For alleged arms imports and military cooperation with Russia and China.

The sanctions freeze any property or financial interests of those designated under U.S. jurisdiction. And prohibit U.S. persons and companies from conducting transactions with them.

Washington also warned that foreign banks and companies that do business with those sanctioned could be subject to similar measures.

Among the designated officials are the Minister of the Cuban Armed Forces, Álvaro López Miera; the Chief of Staff, Roberto Legrá Sotolongo. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio Remón Rodríguez; and the Minister of Economy, Oscar Enrique Biosca Gallego, it was revealed.

The new sanctions also target Cuba’s military attachés in Russia, Mónica Milián Gómez. And in China, Waldo Pérez Cortés, as well as other officials.
