A Neos flight from Italy landed Friday afternoon at the Frank País García International Airport in Holguin province. Carrying members of the Fidel Castro Centennial Brigade “Let Cuba Breathe” from Italy and the “Red Route” group from Portugal. More than fifty European friends will spend two weeks touring historical sites in eastern and central Cuba.
The solidarity group, welcomed by authorities from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). Began a tour of tributes, community work, and cultural activities. As part of the national program commemorating the 100th anniversary of the historic leader of the Revolution. Whose birthday is celebrated on August 13th.
At the airport, Georgia Vernetti, coordinator of the “Let Cuba Breathe” group, emphasized that the island was an example of solidarity. “As an Italian from Turin, I remember very well when the medical brigade arrived during the COVID-19 pandemic. So, for us, this is a demonstration of our solidarity. A way of thanking them for what they have done for the whole world since the Revolution.”
In a gesture that strengthens the bonds of fraternity, they arrive with a shipment of medical supplies and school materials. Destined for the most needy populations in the east and central regions of the country.
The solidarity group will travel to Guisa, in Granma province, the site of a key battle of the Revolution. They will also visit the Agroforestry Station and deliver donations in the coffee-growing community of Guama.
In Santiago de Cuba, there will be events at the Marina, a visit to El Morro fortress, and themed evenings about Fidel Castro. Two groups will tour the mausoleums of the Second and Third Fronts. As well as communities in Santiago.
On August 13th, a caravan called “100 Years for Fidel” will depart from the former Moncada Barracks for Biran. Also where the main centennial celebration will take place. The group will then travel to Baracoa to join the 515th anniversary festivities.
The program includes donations in Maisi. In Caimanera, they will observe Guantanamo Bay and the naval base occupied by the United States.
This group is part of a solidarity platform where each brigade member carries material aid and a firm stance against the blockade. This time within the “Centennial Year” declared by Cuban authorities.
The journey will conclude on August 21st with their return to Italy from Holguin. Carrying the testimony of a people honoring one hundred years of one of the most influential leaders in our America.
