The satirical comedy “Open Couple,” by Italian Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo and Franca Rame. It was presented at the Gibara International Poor Film Festival (FICGibara). By the Pálpito group, as part of the multicultural offerings that distinguish this Holguin-based event.
René de la Cruz, actor and member of the Festival’s organizing committee, praised the warm reception from the Gibara audience this Friday. He emphasized that the diversity of artistic expressions, beyond film, is the defining characteristic of the event.

The play, which premiered in 1983 and has been performed on numerous international stages, arrives in the centennial year of its author’s birth. With biting humor, it exposes the double standards surrounding marriage and the gender inequality implicit in certain ideas of sexual liberation.
De la Cruz explained that the production originated as a training project at the University of the Arts. Where two assistant directors proposed the text. The proposal so excited the cast that the company took it on as its own production.
Actress Alina Molina Cuevas, visiting the White City of Cangrejos for the first time for the performance. Expressed her gratitude for the warm reception from the local audience and emphasized that the play. Far from limiting its message to infidelity, invites reflection on human values and weaknesses in relationships.

Molina Cuevas added that the cast has been working on the project for a year and that the evening in Gibara was a joyful gift at a time when theater needs to reach people.

Founded in 2003 by Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás, the Gibara International Low-Budget Film Festival celebrates its closing day today at its 20th edition. Which brought together works from nearly twenty countries and reaffirms that low-budget cinema is not a genre lacking artistic budgets. But rather a commitment to creativity and quality over large production resources.

The Lucía Awards, the festival’s main prize, will be presented tonight to the best works in competition.
