As part of this effort, the Velasco Telephone Center, in the municipality of Gibara. Received a backup power system based on 12 solar panels of 590 watts each and 10 kilowatts of storage. Thanks to a donation from non-state management entities within the community.

According to a social media post by the DTHO (Department of Transportation and Public Works). The project, coordinated by the president of the People’s Council, also included the provision of construction materials by the Investment and Operations departments of the ETECSA Network. As well as the participation of a telematics technician from the Gibara Associated Telecommunications Center. In the installation and commissioning of the system, along with workers from the non-state sector.

Although the solution does not cover all of the energy needs, it allows for the partial maintenance of fixed and mobile telephone services in the area. Exemplifying the strengthening of the community-business relationship as a path to sustainability and social cohesion.

Velasco is a People’s Council in the municipality of Gibara, in the southern part of Holguin province. Years ago, its rich agricultural tradition earned it the nickname “the breadbasket of Cuba.”
