The Minister of Education, Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto, bid farewell to the 2025-2026 school year this Wednesday. With a message posted on Facebook, in which she acknowledged the sacrifice and dedication of the educational community during this period.
“June is coming to an end, and with it, the school year. There are still days left before the gradual closure of schools. The effort it has taken to get here is evident to everyone,” the minister stated in her post.
Also the minister emphasized that “nothing has been easy. Every step has brought sacrifices, adjustments, and dedication. We deeply value every expression of gratitude toward our teachers, staff, and administrators. Who have overcome immense difficulties, risks, and adversities throughout this period.”
In her message, she added that “no human endeavor is perfect, and education, complex in its essence. Overwhelms us with its humanism, beauty, and sensitivity. We rejoice in the celebrations of the goals achieved; we are moved by the expressions of respect. We are encouraged by the unconditional response of our people. And we are driven by the challenges to continue improving.”
Also the 2025-2026 school year began on September 2, 2025, and concluded early between June 15 and 30, 2026. Due to the energy crisis and logistical limitations. Special education closed in May, while primary and secondary education ended in June.
Meanwhile, in higher education, university entrance exams were not held this year. Admission was determined by the pre-university academic index.
The process of allocating places was organized in three stages between June and July. With more than 45,000 places available for the daytime course and 47,000 for blended and distance learning modalities.
Moreover the Educational Channel broadcast supplementary programming. Including televised review sessions in April for Mathematics, Cuban History, and Spanish. In addition to programs focused on patriotic, cultural, and scientific education.
Trujillo Barreto concluded her message with words of encouragement: “We are already looking forward to seeing you. September will arrive with new challenges and new endeavors. The efforts and the victories will be the same. Nothing can take away our opportunity to grow together in this human achievement that our social process will continue to prioritize.”
