Holguin Begins Day of Tribute to Legal Professionals

The local branch of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba (UNJC) at the Holguin Provincial People’s Court kicked off a series of activities. To commemorate Legal Workers’ Day, celebrated every June 8th.

The iconic steps of Loma de la Cruz served as the starting point for this celebration. Also where a moving political-cultural gathering brought together seasoned legal professionals and young students. Symbolizing the continuity and commitment of revolutionary justice in the region.

With a strong historical and patriotic focus, the program designed for the day offers a profound exploration of the legacy of the great figures of Cuban law. Specialists from the José Martí Cultural Society and other researchers in the field will give lectures and lead discussions. Focused on the legal careers of the National Hero, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the distinguished Holguin patriot, Panchito Frexes.

These theoretical approaches will be complemented by tours of sites of significant heritage value. Including the Museum of the Eastern Army and the Revolution Room of the La Periquera Provincial Museum (the former City Hall). Which will host the keynote address, “Fidel and the Law: Present and Future.”

Furthermore the event also prioritizes intergenerational dialogue and direct engagement with the community. To this end, interactive sessions will be held, bringing together the experiences of retired members of the court system. With the energy of current employees, university law students, and students in technical and vocational programs related to the judicial field.

Similarly, the work of these professionals and the impact of their efforts on society. It will highlight through a series of interviews on local radio, Radio Holguin. Featuring workers in the sector and young people connected to the courts.

As the culmination of the day’s events, a political-cultural ceremony will held on June 8th. To present well-deserved recognition to the sector’s most outstanding workers. Also who ensure the rule of law is upheld at the grassroots level every day.

This celebration commemorates June 8th, 1865, the date on which Major General Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz defended his thesis to earn his law degree. An example that sets the standard for the pride and ethical duty of Cuban jurists today.
