Nickel company laboratory in Moa reaffirms accreditation and strengthens exports

The chemical laboratory of the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Company, located in the mining municipality of Moa. Successfully completed its most recent audit by the National Accreditation Body of the Republic of Cuba (ONARC).

The evaluation, which verifies technical competence according to the Cuban standard NC-ISO/IEC:17025:2017. Reaffirmed the Accredited Laboratory status that this entity has maintained for several years. To perform tests on its five final products: sintered nickel oxide, nickel cobalt sulfide, chemical nickel oxide powder, nickel oxide powder, and nickel sulfide.

Also this result corroborates the credibility of the physicochemical tests that support the international marketing of these products, vital to the Cuban economy. At the closing ceremony, ONARC’s lead auditor, Engineer Carlos Silveira Mariño, and expert Engineer Osvaldo Guilarte Turro highlighted the factory’s successful renewal of this accreditation. Demonstrating the maturity and rigor of the entity’s quality management system.

The Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Company, inaugurated in 1984 and a source of pride for Cuban industry. It processes lateritic ore using the carbonate-ammonia process (Caron) to produce nickel and cobalt. As the only plant of its kind built by the Revolution in the eastern region. It maintains a close relationship with the Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez University of Moa. In the training of professionals and technological innovation, thus strengthening local development.

Moreover this industry is advancing in the modernization of its production infrastructure. With the installation of a new settling tank using Chinese technology. A key investment to optimize ore processing and maintain the sector’s competitiveness. This effort complements the work of its employees in sustaining one of the country’s main export sectors.
