New World MSME in Holguin Focuses on Recycling

The sorting and collection of raw materials, with the goal of adding value to them. It is the main focus of the New World non-state management model. Located within the Héroes del 26 de Julio Mechanical Enterprise (Holmeca). As part of a cooperative production initiative in Holguin.

Miguel Alejandro Torres Pavón, the sole owner of the MSME, explained to CNA that the entity has a contract with the Parranda Brewery. Focused on collecting bottles from this product line in various provinces of eastern Cuba. Which has contributed to achieving a 70 percent recycling rate in the company’s production.

As part of the initiative, the entity collects containers of different sizes. With capacities ranging from 900,000 to one million bottles per month. Which are then pressed and prepared for transport to the industry, he commented.

Also the dynamics of recycling come to life in shopping centers, collection points, and the daily routes of waste managers and collectors. Also who turn solid waste collection into a source of income while simultaneously promoting environmental protection.

Torres Pavón noted that New World is one of only four of its kind in the country. Possessing significant production capacity and export potential. One of the economic aspects the company seeks to develop in order to enhance its infrastructure and commercial value.

Marinelis Torres Pavón, the MSME’s administrator, highlighted the collection system using the web platform www.puntosmonedero.com. This strategy allows customers to be paid at collection centers with a virtual currency. Which can then be used to purchase items at participating retail outlets. Primarily the brand’s beers and malt beverages.

Daniel Mesa Romero, an employee of the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME). He stated that in a single workday they collect approximately eight bales of this product. Each weighing around 300 kilograms and containing nearly 10,000 bottles, including the bottle caps.

New World promotes citizen participation with a significant community impact. And constitutes an economic model that includes solid waste collection, maintenance, and cleaning of industrial facilities. This initiative reaffirms the role of new management methods as key players in the circular economy and local development.
