Storyteller Fermín López, director of the Palabras al Viento Company, received the Glorieta Award. During the 7th edition of the Contada Lajera International Scenic Storytelling Festival. Held in San José de las Lajas in the province of Mayabeque.
The award ceremony took place on May 7th. As part of the seventh edition of the event. Which each year transforms the capital of Mayabeque into the epicenter of storytelling.
Moreover the certificate of recognition, signed by Julio Pedro Coto Oramas—director of the Tacón Theater Group and president of the organizing committee. He states that the award is granted “to his majesty Fermín López. For his dedication and commitment to oral storytelling.” This honorary title reflects the profound respect that the storytelling community holds for the founder of Palabras al Viento.
In addition to the Glorieta Award ceremony, the 7th Contada Lajera (San José de las Lajas Storytelling Festival). Featured an extensive program of artistic and community activities. The event included performances at local health and educational institutions. Reaffirming the social commitment of the oral storytelling movement in Cuba. Furthermore, the gathering fostered exchange among creators from diverse backgrounds. Solidifying San José de las Lajas as a point of reference for this art form in the region.
It is worth noting that Fermín López has dedicated more than a decade to promoting oral storytelling as a tool for social transformation. Therefore, this recognition not only celebrates his individual career. Also the systematic work of the Palabras al Viento (Words to the Wind) Company in defending intangible cultural heritage. In other words, the Glorieta Award confirms what the people of San José de las Lajas already knew: that when Fermín López speaks, the wind blows in his favor.
The organizing committee announced that the eighth edition of the event will be held in May 2027. With the aim of further expanding the cultural bridges that distinguish this international gathering. Without a doubt, the 7th Contada Lajera leaves an indelible mark on the Cuban narrative scene. And the name of Fermín López will shine brightly in its memory.
