The Youth Network for Life is intensifying its health promotion and education activities in Holguin province. Focusing on the comprehensive well-being of adolescents and young adults.
Mariuska Quiñones Aguilar, coordinator of this network, highlighted that it is composed of health promoters ranging in age from 10 to 29. Since December 2024, they have been working on the “Decide Your Game” campaign. Centered on the comprehensive health of adolescents and young adults, specifically targeting the 12-19 age group.
Quiñones emphasized that “this type of activity is fundamental for adolescents and young adults. As it helps them develop skills and attitudes to make healthy decisions.” She also stressed the educational role these young people play by sharing what they have learned about healthy habits and lifestyles with their peers.
Throughout the year, the network addresses various educational topics. Including drug addiction prevention, responsible sexuality, mental health, nutrition, and suicide prevention.
The network also organizes a weekly event called “UHo Saturday” in Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Park, better known as San José Park. Where each Saturday focuses on a different theme. Involving promoters from different age groups. This allows them to educate young people using participatory techniques that make the information more engaging.
Also the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical Informatics at the University of Holguin reported on the activities held on the last Wednesday of each month. Which include sports festivals and health fairs. These events address specific topics to prepare promoters to deliver clear and effective messages.
The Youth for Life Network works tirelessly to foster a culture of comprehensive health among adolescents and young adults in Holguin. Empowering them to make informed and healthy choices.
Moreover the origins of this network in Cuba date back to August 1998. At the National Center for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV/AIDS in Havana. Since then, its purpose has been to foster a culture of self-care and self-responsibility through the training of community health promoters.
