Holguin shown in Sancti Spíritus motocross track

Motorcycles and riders from Holguin outperformed their opponents and took the first place by teams in the fourth phase of the National Motocross Championship which was held at the track next to the Sports Hotel of the provincial capital city of Sancti Spíritus.

The Holguin team scored 327 points, with a balance of three gold medals, two silver ones and same number of bronze medals, escorted by the team from Pinar del Rio (317 units) and deserving of a pair of gold medals and one bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Sancti Spíritus finished in third place, with an accumulated 221 points and one gold, two silver ones and one bronze medal.

The teams from Villa Clara, Havana and Mayabeque took fourth to sixth place, in that order.

In the individual category, Pinar del Río’s Daniel Sierra was the champion in the 11-15 years old category for MZ-CZ motorcycles, 125 cubic centimeters; while the title in the same category, for special motorcycles, went to Yoan Pupo, from Holguín.

Yosbany León, from Holguín, won in the 16-20 years old category for 125 cubic centimeter MZ-CZ motorcycles and in the same age group, but for 250 cubic centimeter engines, the title went to Darián Martínez from Sancti Spiritus.

Likewise, competing with machines of the same cubic centimeter, among those over 20 years of age, the winner was Rubén Rodríguez from Holguín.

The sensation of the event was to see in competition the 16-year-old Briagna Xiomara Rodríguez, the only woman in Cuba who practices and competes in the difficult discipline of motocross and who was the winner of the race for over 16 years old in special motorcycles.

This young woman, who has been riding motorcycles since she was nine years old, stands out as one of the best talents in the discipline in the country; skilled, intelligent and brave, attributes inherited from her grandfather and her father, both outstanding Cuban athletes in this sport.

The fifth phase of the national motocross championship will be held in Las Tunas and the closing will take place at the track next to the Arco Iris recreational center, in the city of Santa Clara.
