Anibal de la Torre, a fine arts figure from Holguin, becomes the first to receive a Collateral Prize at the Salón Provincial de la Ciudad, at the Centro Provincial de las Artes Plásticas paper artists from Florida, USA.
The jury that looked at hom was presided over by Maestro Fernando Bacallao – Holguin born residing over the US, and Manuel Áreas Silveria, director of Cuadernos Papiro Publishing House, along with designer Yanelis Esquijarosa.

Do you consider that this kind of international award is an incentive for your career?
-This is an honor and I am truly honored, because I did not expect it.
The truth is that it has been a surprise for me”.
What is the aesthetic proposal of the awarded work?

The work has its origins from the exhibition ‘Muda desesperación“ (Mute despair), where the ideas blossomed with that exhibition at Sala Electa Arenal, and from there I started to work on the series Historia de un papel que una vive introspección (Story of a Paper Living Introspection).
What projects do you have to celebrate 20 years of artistic career?
-I am working to celebrate my 20 years in another series for a show in May at El Zaguán gallery of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods.
Why do grays and blacks prevail in your works?
-There are always thorns that need to be removed. That is why the recurrence of gray and ochre themes from these concepts in all these years. these years.
In this award-winning series you use red, but there is light in the center, what has changed?
-Hope is the last thing to be lost, and I have achieved it, but we have to keep working hard and improving ourselves every day.
De La Torre is a tireless and persistent creator in his artistic projects. It is usual to see him constantly in the city’s galleries in collective and personal exhibitions, at the Provincial Center of Fine Arts, the Casa Iberoamericana, at the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), and the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods (FCBC).
His pictorial style stands out in the artistic universe, in the lyricism from his religious figures to the abstracts in diverse strokes and techniques, which that make him an artist loved by a universal public.
