José Martí seen by Holguin artists

Artists from Holguin evoke the most universal of Cubans, José Julián Martí Pérez on the 171st anniversary of his birth this January 28.

“Honoring honors”, is the exhibition inaugurated at the Fausto Cristo gallery of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in Holguin, this Friday.

Danilo Lopez Garces, art critic, specialist in fine arts at the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods is the curator of the exhibition and said for this digital portal that “the exhibition is made up of works by 20 artists members of the Uneac and the Saiz Brothers Association”.

The proposals reflect visions on José Martí from an esthetic and poetic conception.

Among the authors are relevant names of the Holguin artistic panorama such as Lauro Echavarria Osorio, Rolando Salvador Pavón, Iosvani García Pérez, (El Pintorcillo) and Enrique Díaz Helpis.

It is “a proposal that exalts and sustains the everyday Martí Perez that accompanies us in life,” said López Garcés.

The exhibition Honrar Honra is organized annually on the eve of the birthday of Cuba’s National Hero, as a pictorial encounter that highlights his life and work through brushes, canvases, photographic lenses and sculptures.

José Martí is a living presence in the collective imagination. His image is multiplied over the years from different manifestations of the plastic arts.
