The Holguin Provincial Film Center stands out in 2023 for being one of the most active cultural institutions in holding events and encouraging audiovisual creation and the promotion of the seventh art.
Among these events, it is worth mentioning the Por Primera vez Festival, in which opera primas compete, whose last edition included a pitching or project contest that turned this institution into a fund to support the audiovisual production of young creators.
The relationship with independent production companies in the nicknamed Cuban City of the Parks was also strengthened, stimulating artistic creation and the film heritage of the province of Holguin.
The Provincial Film Center stands out for complying with its economic technical plan, although the greater income does not correspond to its fundamental activity: the cinematographic projection.
To revert the unfavorable fact of the lack of cinemas in the province, with capacity to project films, the Provincial Film Center and its promoters transfer the exhibition to educational centers, grandparents’ houses, cultural events and the international festivals of the Romerías de Mayo and the Ibero-American Festival.
During the annual meeting of the Provincial Film Center, the most outstanding professionals and employees of the emblematic Cine Martí were recognized, as well as the municipalities of Gibara and Calixto García for the cultural contribution of their institutions as venues for events and spaces for film screenings.
