Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba, today congratulated the people of Gibara on the 207th anniversary of the founding of the town.
In his X account, the deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power for the municipality of the same name, called to continue working on economic and social development in order to achieve greater prosperity in the territory.
With his message, the head of government showed his eternal gratitude to that town for welcoming him as a Gibara resident.
The Villa de Gibara, with an area of 630 square kilometers, was founded on January 16, 1817 and is the head city of the municipality of Gibara, in the province of Holguin.
Declared a National Monument in 2004, by the National Commission of Monuments, and permanent seat of the Gibera International Film Festival, it possesses historical, cultural and patrimonial values, as well as a rich source of traditions and curiosities.
Gibara is a city with a great cultural strength, proof of this are the monuments such as the Museum of Natural History of Gibara, the Church of San Fulgencio, the neoclassical mansion that contains the beautiful Museum of Art and the Museum of Municipal History, or the presence of two branch libraries and a third municipal library known as Armando Leyva Balaguer, inaugurated in 1945 and which is the oldest in the province of Holguin.
With its 207 years of foundation, in the northern coast of Holguin, it continues being a long wall in front of the sea open to the world, a place where its simple and hard-working people feel safe.
