Contribution in Holguín to preserve local historiography

The Provincial Historical Archive of Holguin contributes to the preservation of the local historiography thru a series of activities to be taking place until next 30th, on the occasion of its foundationon (January 3rd, 1983).

This center has more than two thousand linear meters of documents, files and notarial acts prior to the 19th century, which offer a panorama of the economic, political and social reality of that period.

Daisy Gómez Ruiz, a specialist of this institution, emphasized that among the main actions are talks, meetings in elementary schools, access to specialized bibliographies and the socialization of contents through social networks.

She emphasized that the Archive also encourages the creation of circles of interest, especially in the early ages, to reinforce the importance of safeguarding historical memory among the new generations.

Gómez Ruiz specified that a unique program is also being implemented in Cuba focused on the training of teachers of this subject, which is being extended to other eastern provinces such as Granma and Las Tunas.

The event also paid tribute to Georgelina Miranda, Hiram Pérez Concepción and Teresita Pérez, who have been working for more than 30 years in the field of Culture, mainly on the safeguarding of heritage and the promotion of the historiographic wealth.

The work of the Provincial Historical Archive of Holguin also comprises projects like “La memoria que salva” (saving memory), aimed at preserving the territorial traditions of Holguin, which boasts of its more than 200 monuments scattered across its 14 municipalities.
