The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Cuban News Agency (ACN) correspondent’s office in Holguin, began in this eastern city the day of celebration for half a century of this press organ, to be commemorated next May 21.
The beginning of the journalistic work from the territory took place on January 2, 1977, and its founders were Edda Diz Garcés and María Elena Balán, and the first cable news dispatches were about the activities of the nascent province, after the political-administrative division of 1976.
Geovannys Jiménez, head of the Ideological Department of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, highlighted the role of the collective in the coverage of events of national impact and the accompaniment of government authorities in the follow-up of the problems of the population.
He also described as a strength the actions of this team of journalists and the high impact for the visibility of the events in Holguín in the national and international scenario, based on quality and immediate reports.
Germán Veloz Placencia, president of the Union of Cuban Journalists in the province, underlined the professional validity of the correspondent’s work, the use of news values and information sources and announced the intentions of dedicating the Cuban Press Day to the event.
At the celebration, which took place at the headquarters of the correspondent’s office, Faustino Fonseca, director of Information and Social Communication in Holguín, highlighted the responsibility and commitment of the workers in the fulfillment of their work, based on truthfulness, transparency and the long range of the works issued from here.
As part of the celebration, the staff was recognized for its integrity and impact in the year 2023 and was urged to maintain excellence and competitiveness in their work, in addition to celebrating half a century, immersed in the editorial, technological and economic transformation of the ACN.
This process will entail professional growth based on the innovation and development of the institution, with the consequent stimulation of the employees through the expansion of the portfolio of products and services.
The day for the 50th anniversary of the ACN will have several activities in the eastern territory aimed at touring historical and cultural sites of interest, making visible the work of the press in all areas, as well as contributing to the training of new generations of journalists and entertaining active professionals.
