Holguin short stop Manduley will reinforce Matanzas in semifinals

Short stop Yordan Manduley Escalona, a player of Holguin team, will reinforce the Cocodrilos of Matanzas in the semifinal stage of the second Elite League of Cuban Baseball, a stage to begin on January 6, 2024.

In a meeting held at Havana’s Ciudad Deportiva sport coliseum, the managers of the teams of Matanzas, Artemisa, Industriales and Las Tunas chose two players apiece to face the new stage of the competition.

Matanzas, in addition to Manduley, picked on pitcher Wilber Reyna of Santiago de Cuba.
Artemisa manager, Yuliesky González, chose Frederich Cepeda and Albert Valladares – both from Sancti Spíritus.

Havana’s Industriales requested the services of Yanielquis Duardo from Sancti Spiritus and José Luis Gutiérrez from Santiago de Cuba.

Finally, Las Tunas asked for Yosiel Serrano from Santiago de Cuba and Juan Carlos Arencibia, from Pinar del Río, who played with Sancti Spíritus.

Manduley, who recently reached 1,500 hits in the Cuban Baseball League, reinforced Santiago de Cuba, team with which he registered an average of 301, with 44 hits, including seven doubles and two homers, and drove in 22 runs and scored 16.

Other Holguin athletes were already playing for Matanzas: pitcher Jesús Enrique Pérez, with two wins without defeats, a 3.63 ERA and an opponent’s average of 291; and also catcher Nelson Batista, with an average of 273 ERA (22-6).

Among the reinforcements from Holguin who played for Las Tunas Leñadores are pitchers José Antonio Sánchez (0-1), ERA 5.24; thrower Uberleidys Estévez (0-2, 5.16 ERA), along with short stop Adriel Hechavarría who batted 318 (22-7).

At the beginning of the Elite League post-season, Matanzas will host Las Tunas at “Victoria de Girón” stadium and Artemisa will host Industriales at the “26 de Julio” stadium, in a semifinal series of seven to win four.
