Holguín celebrates 101st anniversary of Cuban Radio

This August 22 marks the 101st anniversary of the Cuban Radio, a date that highlights the importance of this communication tool in society.

And to celebrate this anniversary the radio broadcasters of the eastern province of Holguin are holding their Provincial Festival, precisely to pay tribute to that August 22, 1922 when Luis Casas Romero and his son founded their radio station.

Since its beginnings, the radio has been a means of communication highly valued by Cubans and a source of information, education and entertainment for all generations, so those who work in this media in the province decided to celebrate with a festival that aims to achieve a higher quality in communication products.

Yinet Cruz Cabrera, deputy director of the Holguin radio system commented that as part of this event, Monday’s event was very interesting with the meeting between young filmmakers, their projections.

“Their way of seeing life and of seeing the radio also in this phenomenon of media convergence which is where the radio is moving in moments where the radio is no longer only the sound and we also let ourselves be seen and for that there are the social networks of which we are part of this phenomenon of convergence.”

Cuban Radio has evolved over the years, adapting to technological and social changes, but always maintaining its essence of being a means of communication accessible and close to listeners.

Today, radio continues to be a very relevant means of communication, with a wide variety of programs and stations covering different topics and genres.

“Our radio, Holguin Radio System, has lived  87 years since Manuel Angulo Farrán had the brilliant idea of creating that station and since then we have been a tribune of the people as he proposed,” commented Cruz Cabrera.

The Provincial Radio Festival closes this Tuesday with the awarding of prizes to the most outstanding works that were evaluated by a prestigious jury.
