Gibara International Film Festival already true

As is traditional, after the massive parade to the Calixto Garcia Park in the Villa Blanca and the words of Sergio Bembenuto Solás, director of the event, the 17th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival was officially began.

Then, at the Jibá Cinema, the opening gala of the Gibara International Film Festival where the juries of the event were presented.

Also, the tribute to costume designer Violeta Cooper and famous actor Luis Alberto García who were presented with the Lucia de Honor awards.

Music linked to the cinema was played at the gala of the Gibara International Film Festival, where the Chamber Orchestra of Holguin played emblametic pieces made for the seventh art.

A short documentary film with the memories of one of the first editions of this event, which stated “As Fidel is for Cuba, so is Humberto for Gibara”, “… Actors would not exist without those people behind the camera…, “Garcia recognized the importance of the role played by the wardrobe in a filming when referring to Cooper, “… they always ask me how many films you have made, no, they are all hers, she has made them all…”.

Cooper is 84 years old and has a long professional career, having participated in important national films such as Humberto Solás’ Lucía, La bella del Alhambra, El ojo del canario, among many others.

Luis Alberto García expressed his gratitude for being recognized with the Lucía Award, and to the Solás family for keeping Humberto’s dream alive and making this festival possible.

The Swiss film Foudre (2022) by director Carmen Jaquier was screened, which opened the official selection of fiction feature films in competition, presented by the composer of the soundtrack Nicolas Rabaeus.

The first day of the 17th Gibara International Film Festival concluded with a concert by the musical group Toques del Río after an intense day that included the presentation of La Colmenita in the community of El Güirito and the special presentation of the film Línea Roja, by Alejandro Gil.
