Accreditation of three medical specialties began in Holguín   

Intensive Care and Emergency Therapy, Neonatology and Anesthesia and Resuscitation are the three specialties being trained at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, which from December 11 to 15 will be evaluated by the National Accreditation Board (NAB).

According to Dr. Rosell Dorrego Anzardo, director of Postgraduate Studies of the Higher Education center, after the evaluation of six postgraduate programs that had a favorable quality result in each one of their processes and the and the reaccreditation of the Master’s Degree in Medical Education, there are now 21 accredited programs in the academic institution.

After having sent the self-evaluation report to the National Accreditation Board, the National Accreditation Board decided to start the process which translates into the quality of each of the training processes of the three specialties. This will allow an adequate training in each of the processes that include the training of residents, which contributes to a better quality of care to the population.

The accreditation of Neonatology will improve the quality of care for neonates who are neonates, who belong to the Maternal and Infant Care Program (PAMI), which is a priority for the (PAMI), a priority for the health sector”.

This accreditation, one of the most significant processes through which the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín is going through, is complex since it covers the work of each of the specialties, with emphasis on the last five years. five years. Hence the work involved in complying with the indicators to be evaluated.

Among the opportunities offered by having a larger number of accredited programs is the increase in of visibility – of the national and international – of each one of the programs, which contributes to a greater training of professionals in these specialties.

For this reason, Dorrego Anzardo explains that “from the direction of postgraduate work to propose to the NAB in 2024 the specialties of Cardiology and of Cardiology and Hygiene and Epidemiology, in addition to the evaluation of another Master’s program, that of Mental and Community Health.
