Better attention to residents at Holguin Children Hospital boosted

With the goal of motivating and improving the stay of Pediatrics residents and other specialties that offer their services at Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja children hospital in Holguin, the lodging conditions have been progressively improved for a more comfortable stay.

According to Roberto Tomás Sánchez Torres, deputy administrative director of the hospital, for about two years the student residence has been repaired with better conditions than in previous years; however, the search for solutions to problems identified by the residents continues, even though they have not yet achieved all the conditions they dreamed of for this facility. Although there is a cybercafé, the signal is not available, so work is being done to install connectivity in the facility.

Among the most recent activities carried out at the initiative of the hospital’s directors and the teaching department was a special dinner for the residents who live in that building, a well-deserved space for those who daily give their best in the care of the little ones.

This shows that with few resources great things can be done, and in this case it was a way of welcoming them to the new school term. This moment of union allowed us to value other actions that can be done in order to improve the comfort of these professionals.

This facility welcomes residents from Holguín and Guantánamo provinces, as well as specialists from other regions of the country who come to the hospital to gain and consolidate skills in specialties that are a national reference, such as Neonatology or Pediatric Surgery.

It has three levels, designed with reception, dining room, living room, kitchen equipped with the indispensable resources except liquefied gas, a pantry, cybercafé with capacity for 20 people and a classroom where important meetings of the different study groups are held, and a patio. On the second and third levels there are nine rooms each, with independent bathrooms, which adds up to about 60 rooms.

The hospital’s administrative sub-directorate is working to improve the supply of food and a greater variety of services. These initiatives should be multiplied in the health sector as a way of recognizing the work of workers in the sector.
