Ediciones La Luz, the publishing house of the Hermanos Saíz Association in Holguin, reaffirmed its role as an essential platform for new voices in Cuban literature. Through gatherings, workshops, and national awards that have solidified the institution as a permanent benchmark for cultural promotion and dialogue.
Through gatherings such as Emergency Entrance and Vanishing Point, it championed and showcased the creation of new talents. Fostering dialogue between authors and readers in an environment of constant cultural exchange.
As part of the recently concluded 34th Holguin International Book Fair, its program offered a diverse range of events that confirmed the dynamism of emerging literature in Cuba. From its opening day, the fair featured the participation of authors from Las Tunas province. Raúl Leyva and Tomás Escobar, who presented their latest publications.
During the event, both writers shared details about their literary careers and the awards they have received. Including the Calendario, the Mangle Rojo, the Fernandina de Jagua, and the Matanzas City Prize, and gave readings from their work.
Another highlight of the event was the workshop “Introduction to Fantasy and Science Fiction Narrative from Latin America and the Caribbean,” led by writer Erick Mota. Mota explored the construction of alternative worlds and the role of fantasy in challenging certainties.
The workshop invited writers and readers to rediscover narrative tools that have transformed contemporary conflicts into profound and revealing literary universes.
Recognition of Ediciones La Luz’s quality came from Havana, where the Cuban Book Institute presented the La Puerta de Papel awards to the best editions of the Territorial Publishing System. Distinguishing the Holguin-based publishing house with the awards for Lourdes González’s *El libro discontinuo* (The Discontinuous Book). And the expanded edition of Delfín Prats’s *El brillo de la superficie. Poesía Completa* (The Brilliance of the Surface: Complete Poetry), winner of the 2022 National Literature Prize.
This latter volume, which included the previously unpublished poem *Islas Gilbert* (Gilbert Islands) and an audiobook produced by Pablo Guerra. Reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the preservation and dissemination of Cuban poetry.
With these publications, Ediciones La Luz reaffirmed its vocation as an active cultural platform. A space for encounter, reflection, and the strengthening of literary ties through contemporary creation.
