The ninth edition of the Holguin Veterans Futsal League is underway

The Holguin Veterans Futsal League will hold its third match of the 2026 Closing Tournament this Sunday, August 30^th. At the Fernando de Dios Buñuel Sports Center.

Organizer Pedro Luis Moreno Pavón explained that the League, for players over 40, has evolved over time. Since 2025, it has held Opening and Closing Tournaments. Cimex and Bucanero are participating as guests, and their players must be employees of those institutions.

Moreno added that this ninth edition is being played in a round-robin format with three rounds among the six participants. Also the top four will qualify for the elimination stage with home-and-away matches (1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs. 3rd).

Sunday’s schedule will begin at 11:35 a.m. with the match where the leader, Ciudad Jardín, will look to maintain its undefeated record against Hilda Torres. Then, at 12:35 p.m., it will be time for the Clásico between Centro Ciudad and Veteranos. The tournament’s most successful teams in history with three and five titles, respectively.

To close out the day, at 1:35 p.m., Cimex and Bucanero will face off, two teams that need to improve their standings.

After the first two matchdays, Ciudad Jardín leads with six points. They are followed by Veteranos (4) and Centro Ciudad (3). While Cimex has only one point and sits in fourth place. Hilda Torres and Bucanero bring up the rear in the standings, both with no points.

Yaser Núñez of Centro Ciudad leads the scoring charts with three goals. Following him, with two goals each, are Karel Mariño (a World Cup player), Leonardo Soca, and Héctor Ramírez.

The League members express their gratitude to several former players who support the event. By donating balls, whistles, stopwatches, and other equipment. Among them are Fernando Chapman, Josué Garcell, and Tarek Tomé, whose support helps maintain the tournament’s quality and organization.
