The 34th Havana International Book Fair Concludes

With more than 95,000 printed and digital books sold. The first stage of the 34th Havana International Book Fair concluded this Sunday. The event, which defied the difficult situation facing the country. It was held despite the challenges the Cuban government is facing. Stated Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, president of the Cuban Book Institute.

During the closing ceremony in the Nicolás Guillén Hall. Rodríguez Cabrera, who also serves as president of the organizing committee. Emphasized that the intensification of the U.S. embargo against Cuba could not prevent the fair from taking place. This year’s fair is dedicated to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

Rodríguez Cabrera acknowledged the role of Russia as the guest of honor. Which presented a comprehensive artistic and literary program that strengthened the cultural ties between the two nations.
He also expressed his gratitude for the work of everyone involved in the development of the Fair. In which has received extensive coverage across various platforms and venues. He emphasized that this stage is just the beginning of an event that will tour the entire country until its conclusion on September 6th in Santiago de Cuba.

Sergey Parjomemko, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation in Cuba. He stated that this event provided an opportunity for numerous meetings. From which he hopes projects will emerge that will benefit both countries.

Also he further explained that being the guest of honor was a responsibility, and emphasized that, in the current context, Russia made a concerted effort to present its multifaceted culture. Extending beyond literature, in a dignified manner.

The Organizing Committee of the 34th Havana International Book Fair awarded additional recognitions to the Cultural Station of the Fondo de Bienes Culturales (Cultural Assets Fund). The Provincial Government of People’s Power of Havana, the Fidel Castro Center, the Nuestra Historia Project, the Cuban Music Project of the Cuban Institute of Music. The ICAIC Project, the INDER (National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation) stand, and the Ministry of Agriculture stand.

Likewise, the jury of the Cuban Association of Communicators, chaired by Alex Ordaz Zayas, presented the social communication awards in five categories. In the graphic arts category, Editorial Letras Cubanas received the award for creating an engaging system of materials and effectively using its visual identity.

In the audiovisual category, the award went to Ediciones ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Communicators). In digital media, the winner was Casa Editorial Abril. Also  in public relations, the award went to Editorial Gente Nueva for its work in the Children’s Pavilion. And the Grand Prize for Social Communication was awarded to Editorial Letras Cubanas for its ongoing efforts and responsiveness in the digital sphere.
