The 65th edition of the National Baseball Series will officially begin on October 4th. The tournament will implement a new organizational structure in response to the current conditions in the country.
Also the teams, which have not yet begun their training, must do so starting on the 17th of this month. The technical meeting will be held on October 1st, where the final details of the championship will be discussed.

The event will have a new structure, organized by zones. The western zone will have Group A, comprised of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Isla de la Juventud, and Industriales. Group B, comprised of Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, and Villa Clara.
Moreover the eastern zone will have Group C, comprised of Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, and Las Tunas. Group D, comprised of Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantanamo.
Each team will play a total of 44 games in the qualifying stage. Distributed as follows: 24 games against the rivals in their own group and 20 games (a five-game series) against the teams from the other group in their zone.
The top four teams from the Western and Eastern divisions will advance to the postseason. Also where they will face off in a best-of-seven series between zones. So the first-place team will play the second-place team. The winner of this series, which will be a 3-2 series, will advance directly to the zone final.
The loser of that playoff will have another opportunity against the winner of the series between the third and fourth-place teams. The winner of that series will be the other team to qualify for the zone championship.
Finally, the champions of the Eastern and Western divisions will face off for the trophy of the 65th National Baseball Series, in a best-of-seven series.
This format change aims to adapt to the current circumstances in the country. Optimizing travel while maintaining the momentum of Cuba’s premier baseball event.
