The recent First 360 Master’s Degree Convention, organized by the University of Medical Sciences of Holguíin (UCMHo). Energized the academic and professional field of the health sector in the region. In this regard, the Rector of the institution, Dr. George Augusto Velázquez Zúñiga, emphasized the importance of this event as a space for reflection and exchange. “The 360 Master’s Programs Convention was an opportunity to showcase the impact our master’s programs have had. Not only in the training of professionals, but also at the community level.”
In this way, each master’s program presented its evidence from a comprehensive perspective. As well as the results regarding economic impact, relevance, research innovations, and developments in teaching. “The enthusiasm and commitment of the academic committees, comprised of the most scientifically, academically, and research-level professors in our field, was evident,” he explained.
This was a kind of forum where relevant topics were addressed. So as well as advances in diagnosis and treatment, and the integration of new technologies in the medical field.
Master’s Degree in Higher Medical Education
The Master’s Degree in Higher Medical Education is the most established program at UCMHo. Currently in its eighth year, it has over 260 graduates and has twice undergone evaluation. By the regulatory body of the Ministry of Higher Education: the National Accreditation Board.
In this regard, Dr. Pedro Augusto Díaz Rojas, who oversees the doctoral training program at the university and coordinates this academic program. Emphasized its cross-cutting nature across all university processes and health institutions. As its role is to train professors in all areas of specialization.
Díaz Rojas also mentioned that this program has been refined and updated year after year. The program, in accordance with the current context, consists of 13 academic courses and sponsors an international event of the Cuban Society of Educators in the Health Sciences. Its development reflects a maturation process enhanced by innovation. With impactful results in improving the quality of higher education within the health system.
Master’s Degree in Medical Imaging
Dr. José Cabrales Fuentes, coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Medical Imaging. He spoke about the unique nature of his program. “We not only focus on teaching methods, but we also explore the use of Artificial Intelligence in patient diagnosis and management.” He explained that this type of convention aims to showcase the program’s progress and impact.
This master’s degree is crucial in training specialists capable of improving patients’ health status through advanced techniques. Therefore, one of the convention’s objectives was attracting new students and connecting graduates with the medical community. “It was a very special moment where several aspects came together,” he said.
Although this program doesn’t yet have a number of graduates, as it is in its first year. The specialist, who also holds a second-degree in Imaging. Emphasized that the most important thing is the program’s ability to produce graduates. And that these graduates return to their professions with the experience of having transformed the lives of sick patients, he concluded.
Master’s in Health Economics
The young Doctor of Science, Verónica Aleyda Velázquez González, coordinator of the Master’s in Health Economics. Highlights that the first edition ran from 2022 to 2025, yielding six research projects as its main results. These projects covered costs related to Primary Health Care (PHC) and secondary care. Including econometric studies and their significant impact due to the statistical and economic analyses. Applied in their respective areas of expertise.
It is validated through presentations at international congresses and provincial conferences. Students combine their master’s degree with residency in nursing specialties such as Health Organization and Administration. It is designed as a platform for doctoral studies and boasts a 100 percent retention rate to date.
The 1st Scientific Convention of Master’s 360 Programs stood out as a comprehensive event. That celebrated academic achievements with the active participation of professionals from different fields. Initiatives like these prioritize scientific creation through interdisciplinary collaboration.
