At the 49th graduation ceremony of the Holguin University of Medical Sciences (UCMHo). In a moving ceremony, 869 healthcare professionals from the various programs offered by the university received their degrees. After years of dedication and effort, they successfully completed their academic training and are preparing to join the region’s healthcare system.
This was an opportunity to recognize individual achievements in addition to collective accomplishments. The efforts of outstanding students were recognized. A total of 88 students received the Mario Muñoz Monroy Vanguard Award, while 35 were awarded the Scientific Merit Prize. In addition, 218 students received the Gold Medal for their academic achievements. And 24 were recognized as outstanding students, reflecting their exceptional commitment to their studies.
Of the total number of graduates, 455 were from Medicine, 130 from Nursing, 14 from Dentistry, and 47 from Medical Imaging and Radiophysics, Clinical Bioanalysis, and Hygiene and Epidemiology. There were also 82 short-cycle technical degrees, 37 graduates from part-time programs, and 104 graduates from vocational-technical education.
The ceremony presided over by Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and First Secretary in the province. Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor; and Yunia Pérez Hernández, Vice Governor. Julio Yamel Verdecia Reyes, Director General of Health, and George Augusto Velázquez Zúñiga, Rector of the academic institution, were present.
During his address, Rector Velázquez Zúñiga emphasized the importance of the social commitment the new professionals now have. “The health of our people is in the best hands,” he stated. Highlighting the graduates’ responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the community.
The Medical Sciences Graduates’ Commitment to Service: The ceremony was dedicate to the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. The 104th anniversary of the founding of the Federation of University Students (FEU); the 73rd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks. And the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Mariana Grajales Cuello Faculty of Medical Sciences.
This graduation not only represents the end of an academic cycle but also marks the beginning of a new stage in the professional lives of these young people. Who bear the responsibility of providing quality medical care. Even amidst the complexities of our times, the graduates, their families and friends. Along with some of the faculty who contributed to their education, witnessed moments of pride and joy.
