Thousands of Holguin residents gathered in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez. For an open forum of massive support for Army General Raúl Castro Ruz on June 3rd, his 95th birthday.
Workers from the province’s fifteen unions marched to the heart of the plaza. Men and women dressed in the colors of the Cuban flag raised banners and signs. In a resounding display of revolutionary unity and loyalty to the historic leader.
They did so in the face of recent smear campaigns that have sought to damage his image and accusations regarding the 1996. Downing of aircraft belonging to the counterrevolutionary organization Brothers to the Rescue.
The commemorative ceremony, presided over by Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguin. It was a declaration that Cuba remains strong, with its people in the streets. Its leaders in their hearts, and the certainty that as long as there is unity, there will be a future.
Aroldo García Fombellida, journalist and correspondent for Radio Rebelde in Holguin. He spoke on behalf of those present to recall his experiences with Raúl Castro. He remembered his humanitarian vocation, the Army General’s visit to the province three decades ago.
Right at that emblematic monument, and the moment he received from him the replica of Máximo Gómez’s machete. That symbol, he said, stands today as a commitment and motivation to continue defending the homeland.
The celebration included singing, artistic performances, and recitations to commemorate the son of this land. Alongside Fidel, gave his life for the dignity of Cuba. Also set the example that the people of Holguin uphold with every step they take.

Thus, amidst flags and the strength of a people who do not surrender. Holguin told Raúl, Cuba, and the world that its loyalty is unwavering. Because this plaza was not just a stage. It was the mirror of a nation that, united, continues to write its history.
