The Holguin Provincial Center for Visual Arts (CPAP) is celebrating its 35th anniversary today. Commemorating its history of championing contemporary visual art and Cuban culture.
Roxana La O Sánchez, a specialist at the CPAP, explained to CNA that the program aims not only to celebrate an anniversary. Also to communicate that an arts center is more than just a building. It houses a living archive of exhibitions, gatherings, and learning experiences.
She noted that the activities will begin in the Small Room with the discussion “35 Years of Movement.” Led by specialists Martín Garrido, Bertha Beltrán, and Ana Castro. Which will explore the institution’s history through dialogue between those who create and those who reflect on the works.
The program will continue with the presentation of the documentary “Remolinos” (Whirlwinds). Also which captures the experiences of CPAP artists and directors at the Holguin branch of the University of the Arts. Sharing their work with students from the Faculty of Audiovisual Media.
Also opening in the Temporary Exhibition Hall will be a group exhibition of the work of Cosme Proenza Almaguer. Commemorating his outstanding contributions to the visual arts in Cuba and internationally. And his close relationship with the Holguin institution.
The highlight will be the exhibition “Una cátedra expres” (A Chair on Display). Featuring pieces by professors and students from the El Alba Regional Academy of Visual Arts. This exhibition will showcase the connection between specialists and students. As well as the discipline, creativity, and talent cultivated in Holguin’s classrooms.
Other related activities will take place throughout the day. Including a second installment of “A golpe de Jazz” (To the Beat of Jazz). With artists interacting with works inspired by the posters of the 41st International Jazz Plaza Festival. Children’s activities in conjunction with the “Magia de los Sueños” (Magic of Dreams) project.
