A new year begins, and we all say, “New year, new life,” but it shouldn’t be that way. It’s better to say, “I have a new opportunity for myself.” The first day of 2026 reminds us of something important. We shouldn’t wait for everything to be perfect or ideal to start building our dreams as 21st-century Cubans.
Today you have a new blank calendar, filled only with the names of the months, days of the week, and their numbers. Which add up to 365 new days to live. And this new time is for living intensely because this material life is short. We realize it too late when our years are already subtracting instead of adding up.
It’s up to you to be the painter of each day of your life, to make it beautiful, magnifying the happy moments and diminishing the hard and sad ones. Instead of depressing us, these moments should give us strength to continue living on this beautiful planet. Even though some continue to pollute it by burning fossil fuels.
We must paint our lives with beautiful colors that give us meaning. In that palette, omit black and fill it with blue or green. Because they are the most beautiful colors in nature.
Live life to be happy; don’t hold grudges, instead hold onto happiness. So that the human body is filled with positive energy that spreads to everyone. Let go of envy, fear, and resentment.
Avoid stress and all feelings that can harm your health. I remember reading, a while ago, that resentful people eventually die of cancer. I also remember a scientific study that discovered why people with dementia don’t get cancer: they don’t experience stress.
Have pity on those who hurt you because they are unhappy. It is known that those who are happy do not harm anyone. Also therein lies divine justice, which acts sooner or later upon the malevolent.
Make an inner commitment to be a better person. Both inside and out, and society, karma, and even God. Why not say it, will congratulate you with spiritual medals.
Help the sick, the poor, the needy, and never expect material payment in return. Because divine justice will reward you abundantly. And when you have a problem, you will see how destiny will place in your path the person who can help you as a reward for your good deeds.
Don’t make promises you know you won’t keep, nor set impossible goals. Take advantage of the moment to focus on small goals. So that day by day, step by step, you can achieve your objectives and see how you grow in a more beautiful way in your life.
In a world full of stress, gratitude has stood out as a powerful habit with proven benefits. A study conducted by the University of California revealed that practicing gratitude regularly can significantly improve both mental and physical health.
People who practice gratitude experience an improved mood, less anxiety, more energy, and better sleep quality. Furthermore, gratitude reduces cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increases vitality by 17 percent. However, gratitude isn’t just about saying “thank you” for something superficial or automatic. The true power of gratitude lies in consciously reflecting on the things we value in our lives.
For it to work, it’s necessary to stop and think about what we truly appreciate. Reflect on what we have, whether it’s our health. Our relationships, or even the small, everyday things.
It’s an act of self-awareness that allows us to see the positive side of our lives, even in difficult times. Intentionally practicing gratitude has a profound impact on how we perceive the world and how we face daily challenges. This habit, when incorporated into your daily routine, can be as simple as writing a gratitude journal or dedicating a few minutes to reflecting on what you appreciate. By doing so regularly, you not only improve your mental health. But also strengthen your relationships and your resilience in the face of adversity.
That’s why this new year, 2026, marks the beginning of a new opportunity for you. Every decision you make will be the color that brings this blank canvas to life. It’s not about doing everything, but about doing it with intention, taking care of what truly matters.
Dream big, act with love. Remember that there is a new opportunity for you in this 2026, which has just begun. May the New Year be like a blank canvas on which we can happily write our journey through life. This is my wish for you, my reader.
