Cubs defeat Industriales with excellent relief pitching

An excellent relief appearance by José Miguel Rodríguez, coupled with a timely and prolific offense. Gave the Holguin Cubs a hard-fought victory over the Industriales Lions at Calixto García Stadium. As the thirteenth game of the LXIV National Baseball Series began.

Although Holguin took an early lead with a run in the first inning. The Industriales Lions responded with seven runs in the third, racking up seven hits. Including two doubles and Yaser Julio González’s first home run of the series.

In that inning, starting pitcher Luis Cáser struggled, working 2 1/3 innings and allowing four hits and four earned runs. Ramiro Rodríguez, who failed to record an out, allowed one hit, issued one walk. Hit one batter, and gave up three earned runs.
The Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the third when they chased starter Lee Andy Plumas, added two more in the fifth to pull within one, and took the lead in the sixth, 9-7, after crossing home plate three times.

Meanwhile, two pitchers from Sagua de Tanamo shut down the Havana offense: Arley Cuba pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and one walk, and the winning pitcher, José Miguel Rodríguez (5-3), pitched four innings. Allowing only three hits, striking out three, walking one.

In the ninth, the home team scored a run to make the final score 10-7. The loss went to Misael Fonseca (5-3), the second of five relievers used by manager Guillermo Carmona. In Holguin’s 14-hit offense, Edward Magaña stood out, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Lázaro Cedeño went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, solidifying his lead in that category with 67; and Nelson Batista, Ernesto Torres (with a double), and Jorlis Bravo (with a triple and two RBIs) each went 2-for-5. The fans were delighted by the late-game return of Yasiel González, who went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

For the Havana team, who racked up twelve hits and, like their opponents, played error-free, Carlos Nietos stood out with two doubles in five at-bats and two RBIs. Ángel Hechavarría went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Brian Garzón went 3-for-4 with a double, and Yosvani Peñalver went 2-for-5.

The Las Tunas Lumberjacks maintained their lead in the standings by defeating the Sancti Spiritus Roosters 13-12. The game was decided by a walk-off single from Yosvani Alarcón. Rodolfo Díaz recorded a crucial out to secure his seventh win, while Yanielquis Duardo took the loss.
At Victoria de Girón Stadium, the Cocodrilos defeated the Avispas 13-6, fueled by a 16-hit offensive barrage led by Hanyelo Videt, who had four hits, a home run, and three RBIs. Yoannis Yera earned the win, though he allowed five runs in five innings.

Meanwhile, in Campechuela, the Elefantes de Cienfuegos continued their winning streak with a 5-3 victory over the Alazanes, and at Nelson Fernández Stadium, Mayabeque routed the Indios de Guantanamo 4-0. Camagüey defeated Artemisa 8-6, with Leonel Moas Jr. unleashing a triple, a home run, and five RBIs.

In Pinar del Rio, Ciego de Avila unleashed a storm, delivering a 24-4 knockout blow to Vegueros. Jonathan Bridón and Cristian Pagarizabal spearheaded the devastating attack with 17 hits and five RBIs each, while Kevin Soto earned the win.

Finally, at Sandino Stadium, Villa Clara defeated Isla de la Juventud 6-2, thanks to a nine-inning gem from Osdany Rodríguez and a timely home run by Leonardo Montero.

With Tuesday’s results concluded, Las Tunas (36-20) leads the standings, followed in the top division by Matanzas (39-22, -0.5); Holguin (37-23, -1.0); and Industriales (35-23, -2.0). Cienfuegos (33-24, 3.5 ERA); Mayabeque (33-25, 4.0 ERA); Sancti Spiritus (33-28, 5.5 ERA); and Artemisa (31-27, 6.0 ERA).

For Wednesday’s game, starting at 1:30 pm, manager Lugdis Pineda announced left-hander Uberleydis Estévez (3-2, 7.88 ERA) as the starting pitcher. While Guillermo Carmona will send Raymond Figueredo (4-3, 2.84 ERA) to the mound.
