The Mariel Special Development Zone (ZED Mariel) presented a portfolio of 35 projects in strategic sectors. Reported its General Director, Ana Teresa Igarza Martínez. During the 8th Investment Forum at the Havana International Fair.
The projects encompass the food, biotechnology, chemical, logistics, construction, and real estate industries. As the director explained in statements to the Granma newspaper. Igarza Martínez highlighted that the entity has a One-Stop Shop system to support investors throughout the entire life cycle of their companies.
She noted that production and marketing within the Mariel ZED is entirely Cuban. As part of the national import substitution strategy. In this context, the upcoming commissioning of a glass container plant for the food industry was announced.
The official emphasized the resilience of the Zone’s infrastructure. Which restored its production within a month after Hurricane Rafael struck in late 2014. Regarding incentives, financial, fiscal, labor, and commercial measures were implemented to strengthen the performance of companies located in the enclave.
Finally the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZED Mariel) has an integrated logistics platform. That allows for the import of components, assembly processes, and redistribution of products to the region, in accordance with Cuba’s trade agreements.
