Holguin Chess Player Repeats Victory in Olympiad in Kazakhstan

Holguin National Master Héctor Luis Fuentes de Feria achieved his second victory this Tuesday in the continuation of the Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Héctor Luis, again at table three, achieved one of the three victories for the Cuban team this round. With the white pieces at the expense of Inani Darpan of India, and maintained his unbeaten record through two games.

The Cuban team, ranked fourth in the tournament, outperformed India 3.5-0.5. Thanks to wins by Pedro Morales and Idalis Batista, as well as a draw by Carlos Larduet.

In the opening round this Monday, Cuba led Kazakhstan 3-1, remaining in the lead. Now with four points and 6.5 points accumulated by its players.

The main team of the International Federation (FIDE) dominates the competition with a perfect record, four points, and a victory in all eight games. They are followed, with the same tiebreaker, by Poland, Cuba. Also the representative of the Braille Chess Association.

This second edition of the Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities runs until the 26th using the Swiss system for six rounds.
