Mitrans Urges the Validity of the Operating License

The Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans) called on companies and self-employed workers to process and maintain a valid Transportation Operating License (LOT).

As a way to guarantee the safety, formality, and organization of passenger and cargo services in the country. Announced Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila from his Facebook profile.

The LOT is a mandatory requirement for state and non-state entities. As well as for auxiliary activities linked to the sector. Including mechanics, bodywork, freight forwarding, and parking. Its objective is to ensure technical and legal conditions that protect users and regulate the market.

Moreover official data indicates that by the end of July, 6,964 licenses had been granted to legal entities. And 73,347 authorized receipts had been issued for means and facilities, mostly automotive. In the case of individuals, 32,436 LOTs were registered. With more than 6,887 receipts assigned to contracted workers.

Authorities explained that licenses for legal entities are processed at provincial transportation offices. While those for individuals are processed in the municipality of residence. Both processes are supported by computer systems.
To encourage the use of LOTs, the Ministry of Transportation and Transport (MITRANS) is developing a new digital application that will replace the printed format and streamline procedures. This application is already being implemented on the Isle of Youth and will be progressively extended to the rest of the country.

Likewise, joint procedures were established with the National Tax Administration Office and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to ensure that licenses are issued within the established timeframes.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transport (MITRANS) emphasized that operating without LOTs constitutes an illegality that affects safety. Also encourages tax evasion, and limits the organization of transportation in the regions.

In contrast, those who comply with the license have access to more stable and transparent conditions to legally operate their business.

The agency announced that in the last quarter of the year, concrete organizational measures will be advanced. In coordination with the territories, to strengthen formality and encourage the use of the LOT as a guarantee of quality in services.
