UPEC Awards Winners of the Journalism Contest

The Press House in the city of Holguin was once again the venue for the awards ceremony. For the winners of the “Eloy Concepción” Provincial Journalism Contest. An event that recognizes the work of Holguin reporters.

The journalists Lourdes Pichs Rodríguez, Jorge Fernández Pérez, Yenny Torres Bermúdez. Liban Fernando Espinosa Hechavarría, and John Alex Fernández Leyva won awards in the print media category. While Leonor Legrá Lobaina, Raúl Rodríguez Peña, and Maylín Betancourt Verdecia were honored in the radio category.

In television journalism, Marel González Escobar, María Karla Casaus Portelles, and Liban Espinosa Hechavarría were the winners. Also in digital journalism, the jury recognized the work of Lourdes Pichs, Jorge Fernández, Rosana Rivero. Also Liban Espinosa, and Noemy Marrero Rodríguez.

In the photography category, the winners were journalism student Álvaro Sánchez Portelles, photojournalist Elder Leyva Almaguer, and journalist Yenny Torres, all from the weekly ¡Ahora!

This year’s competition jury, composed of journalists Magalys Pupo Leyva, Juan Pablo Carreras, Yudit Almeida Pérez, Gloria Parra Barceló, and Rubén Rodríguez González, recognized the quality of all the entries. Also encouraged greater participation by Holguin press professionals in future editions.

This competitive event is organized by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC in the Spanish acronym) in the province of Holguin. In addition to recognizing the work of the reporters. It paid tribute to Eloy Concepción Pérez, a prominent Holguin journalist born in Barajagua, Cueto municipality.
