Granted Awards of Eloy Concepción Journalism Competition
The Union of Cuban Journalists (Upec) in Holguin held the awards ceremony of the “Eloy Concepcion Perez” Journalism Contest, in a meeting among colleagues of the media.
The competitive event is organized with the objective of recognizing the work of the best reporters and in remembrance of Eloy Concepción Pérez, an outstanding journalist from Holguín, born in Barajagua, Cueto municipality.
Journalists Lourdes Pichs Rodríguez (Ahora newspaper), Liban Fernando Espinosa Hechavarría (student of journalism) and Germán Veloz Placencia (Granma daily) were awarded prizes in the Printed Press category.
Professionals Iraldo Leyva and Roxana Hechavarría Torres (Radio Juvenil), Carlos García Aballe and Grettel Cuenca Durán (Radio Holguín), won awards in the radio category.

In Television Journalism the winners were Yulieska Hernández García, Marel González Escobar and Yordanis Rodríguez Laurencio (Telecristal channel).
In Hypermedia Journalism, the jury recognized the work of Rosana Rivero Ricardo (Ahora), Maylín and Betancourt Verdecia and Yamila Pupo Otero (both from Radio Angulo).
In the photography, Elder Leyva Almaguer and Heidi Calderón Sánchez (Ahora) were awarded; the special category was won by Juan Pablo Carreras Vidal (ACN), with a special work on the fire in Pinares de Mayarí.

The jurors, Beatriz Galván (television), José Miguel Ávila (hypermedia), Fabio Ochoa (radio), Frank Iglesias (photography), and Cleanel Ricardo ( printed media) as president, evaluated and recognized the rigor of the works in the contest, through which the authors showed a great mastery of the published topics.
The 2023 edition of the contest, sponsored by Upec, was attended by some 50 journalistic works in the written press, radio, television, hypermedia and photojournalism, in addition to the special theme.
