Bilbao’s Semana Grande (Bilbao Big Week), scheduled for August 16-24th. Will raise funds and medical supplies for Cuba in an initiative promoted by solidarity groups.
Prensa Latina learned today that the initiative, under the slogan “With Cuba: Yes to Health, No to the Blockade,” is sponsored by the Euskadi-Cuba Friendship Association and Cuban emigration groups in the Basque Country, Sierra Maestra, and Desembarco del Granma. It is also supported by the Bilbao Association of People’s Commissars.
Cubainformación detailed in the note sent by its coordinator, José Manzaneda, that the drawing and poster for this campaign were designed by the well-known Basque artist Tasio.
Medical supplies such as medications, syringes, gloves, adhesive tapes, bandages, catheters, sutures, diapers, pads, condoms, and others will be collected.
The initiative also includes the possibility of contributing funds to the European campaign “Hand on Heart. Pacemakers for Cuba,” to cover the current deficit in the archipelago’s hospitals.
The text stated that the Cuban people are experiencing a very difficult economic situation. Which is particularly affecting their public health system, with serious shortages of supplies and medications in hospitals, polyclinics, and pharmacies.
On the other hand, the closing of the campaign in Andalusia was announced. The campaign raised €14,642, which will be added to other contributions from the MESC (State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba), intended for the purchase of pacemakers.
As of July, organizations in other parts of Spain, such as Valencia, Galicia, Madrid, Asturias, Aragon, Murcia, and Catalonia, had raised almost €20,000.
