Holguin Prioritizes Teacher Coverage for the New School Year

Completing teacher coverage is a priority for the Education sector in Holguin, in preparation for the 2025-2026 school year. For which the figure is over 80 percent, without alternatives being used.

Given the shortage of educational workforce in the northeastern region—which has the most extensive educational network in the country—strategies are being implemented to meet demand in the next academic year, commented Luis Felipe Batista Rodríguez, General Director of Education in the province, during the sector’s Preparation Seminar.

The emphasis is on the Basic Secondary and Technical and Vocational Education levels, as well as on subjects such as English and mathematics, where the current teaching staff is insufficient. Therefore, the recruitment of final-year students from the Pedagogical Schools is being encouraged, and the Educating for Love contingent will be activated.

In areas with greater challenges, such as the main municipality, alternatives are being explored. Such as calling on organizations and agencies, continuing to create annex classrooms taught by methodologists, and promoting the integration of professionals with experience in Youth and Adult Education.

The director emphasized the importance of incentivizing teachers through the flexible application of the provisions favoring the economic incentives approved in Resolution 10/2024. Among which the salary increase for student overload stands out.

Part of these actions involves improving social services for teachers by improving infrastructure conditions in the shantytowns that house teachers from other provinces, as well as through progress in eliminating dirt floors in teachers’ homes.

Batista Rodríguez added that the professional development of human resources will be promoted through postgraduate courses and the categorization process. As a pillar for the development of knowledge and collaboration in the use of new tools that elevate the quality of teaching.

With 43 weeks, the 2025-2026 school year will begin in September throughout the country, with work objectives such as advancing the development of the Third Improvement Program for the sector and pedagogical and cultural decolonization.
