Unloading of rice for basic food baskets began on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 30th, through the Port of Vita, in the province of Holguin.
The rice, originating from Guyana, will be distributed to all Holguin municipalities with the goal of completing the monthly installments owed.
Workers from the Transportation and Commerce sectors are working to expedite loading and transfer operations to warehouses and storage facilities.
Freddy Rodríguez García, head of programs for the Food Group of the Eastern Provinces. Explained that these 2,800 tons of rice will cover the delivery of the four pounds of rice for April and the three pounds for May.
Yurlen Fernández, director of the Port of Vita, commented that they unload 500 tons per day in two work shifts and added: “We are committed to working with the authorities and other ministries. To ensure that this supply reaches the warehouses of Holguin residents as quickly as possible.”
