The recent presentation of the life stories of the recognized health personalities Elizabeth Leyva Sánchez and Pedro Augusto Díaz Rojas, as final diploma projects in the career of Information Sciences, will be part of the repositories of the University of Holguin and the Provincial Center for Medical Science Information.
Díaz Rojas, who has dedicated 44 years of his life to Medicine and teaching and is still active, expressed his gratitude for this recognition as encouragement for his work and dedication to the health system, to the training of human resources, and to research in the field of Medical Sciences.
This distinguished academic, despite his extreme modesty, has several recognitions such as like the José Tey Medal, the Award for Excellence in Higher Medical Teaching, the Lifetime Achievement Distinction, the exceptional granting of the Special Seal of Builder of the Future, the Dean’s Award for the quality of the Master’s in Medical Education, and the Carlos J. Finlay and Frank País Orders.
Anabel Rodríguez García, a graduate who defended her life story, expressed regarding this: “I never thought I would end up with such an important thesis because dedicating work to a personality with such vast knowledge and to such a distinguished teacher, a specialist in Histology, is a privilege.”

The bibliographic methodology was applied in accordance with the guidelines proposed by Licenciada Jandy Alí Sánchez, who has stood out since 1999 for her exhaustive compilation of biobibliographic research, based on various projects that include personalities such as Doctors Pura Avilés Cruz, Rafael Vázquez Fernández, Rafael Manuel Trinchet Soler, and Luis Velázquez Pérez.
Thus, these biobibliographies position themselves as a valuable contribution intended to strengthen the recognition of the legacy of Professors Pedro Augusto and Elizabeth.
In that regard, Dr. Elizabeth Leyva Sánchez acknowledges that since she was informed that she had been selected for this activity, she was astonished, “because there are other people who have a much richer life story, based on all they have done.
I truly feel honored to have been selected and to contribute the little experience we have gained over all these years of work so that it can serve the new generations, in terms of their completion of studies.

Arletis Cruz Fernández, author of the life and work of Doctor in Sciences Elizabeth Leyva Sánchez, acknowledges how much studying Information Sciences has contributed to her professional performance:
“This career has provided me with infinite wisdom. My thesis is the achievement and evidence of the knowledge acquired over the past five years.
Having life stories focused on health personalities represents a significant contribution to society and has its references in Cuba in one of the most illustrious intellectuals of the 19th century, the university professor, journalist, historian, and bibliographer Antonio Bachiller y Morales, considered the father of Cuban bibliography, who dedicated much of his life to the study of bibliography in Cuba and Latin America.
Having these studies is an achievement both for the higher education institution of Medical Sciences and for the University of Holguin, serving as a reference tool for students, academics, and the general public, while also helping to preserve the cultural and intellectual legacy of the authors, with the guarantee of making their contributions enduring.
