A new treatment for disc herniation, after a failed surgery, is already being implemented at the Natural and Traditional Medicine service of the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Surgical Clinical Hospital in the city of Holguin.
Alina Centeno Muñoz, a specialist in this branch and one of the authors of the research, told CNA that the technique consists of applying ozone in the lumbar region two centimeters away from the lesion. Taking into account the particularities of each case.
She pointed out that among the benefits of the protocol is the recovery of mobility and quality of life in men between 43 and 50 years of age, the most affected by this type of lesions.
The new procedure replaces the conventional one that consisted of a surgical operation as a way of relieving pain, which, in most cases, was a temporary solution and in the medium term the symptoms returned, she emphasized.
Initially, a sample of 30 patients was taken for the study, of which 28 responded favorably and recovered their wellbeing. Which is why it is in the process of generalization in the province and in eastern Cuba, she said.
Natural and Traditional Medicine is one of the strategies used by the Public Health system focused on improving the living conditions of the sick in view of the deficit of medicines and supplies caused by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
In Holguin, other studies and therapies are also being carried out in the attention of oncological, asthmatic and diabetic patients. As well as infants with pathologies classified as rare who, due to their health conditions, cannot use the usual medicines.
