Serguey Hernández’s decisive two home run in the seventh inning gave Holguin a 4×3 victory over Villa Clara. To secure the bronze medal in the National Softball Championship for men that concluded this Friday with the coronation of the hosts from Ciego de Avila.
The Holguineros opened the scoreboard with a home run by Luis Raúl Domínguez and extended the lead in the fifth with another run by Raynel García, but the Villaclareños took the lead in the closing of the sixth 3×2.
The victory went to left-hander Rafael Guerra (5-2) who allowed only one clean run and gave 10 strikeouts, while Leonardo Jiménez (3-2) took the setback.
With this result, the Holguin team improves the fourth place achieved in the last edition of the National Softball Championship when they precisely lost to today’s victims.
The Avileña victory against Santiago de Cuba for the gold medal was with a 6×1 slate with another commendable work of pitcher Alain Román (7-0), who celebrated his 47th birthday in style.
