Holguin is second in men’s national softball championship

With a balance of two victories and an equal number of setbacks. The Holguin team is in second place in the National Men’s Softball Championship, which is being held this Monday in Ciego de Avila on the third day of competition.

The Holguineros have two divisions in the two initial dates, on Saturday against Villa Clara they won 2×1 and then lost 3×1. Left-hander Rafael Guerra was responsible for both decisions.

This Sunday, against the hosts from Avila, the team from Holguin won 4×1 again with Guerra (2-1) on the mound, who struck out eight times.

The northeasterners then lost 3×0 to star pitcher Alaín Román, who allowed only one hit and struck out 16 batters, to reach 29 in the event in only 12 innings of work. The loser was José Ávila (0-1), who had to endure Reisel Brocat’s decisive home run.

Rain has prevented the celebration of two doubleheaders, the one between Santiago de Cuba and Havana on the opening day and the one between Santiago de Cuba and Villa Clara this Sunday.

After two days, the locals lead with 3 wins and one loss, followed by Holguin with 2-2, Havana 1-1, Villa Clara 1-1, Granma 1-3, while Santiago de Cuba, one of the favorites for the title, has not been able to finish any game.

The National Softball Championship for boys will extend until next Friday and this Monday foresees the doubleheader between Holguin-Santiago de Cuba, Ciego de Avila-Havana and Granma-Villa Clara.
