Renier Vazquez from Holguin wins main group in chess tournament

Grand Master Renier Vazquez from Holguin province won the main group of the Guillermo Garcia in Memoriam Chess Tournament. Which ended this Thursday in Santa Clara, Villa Clara.

Vazquez reached a draw in the ninth and last round with Cuban International Master Jorge Roberto Elias to finish undefeated and reach 6.5 points. Enough to win the “Premier 1”, and experience an increase of 9.1 units for his Elo.

The other winner from Holguin in this edition of the “Guillermito” was Master Fide Manuel Darío Ochoa, who defeated his counterpart Yonisbel Rosabal in the “Open” the day before, reaching 7.5 units to be crowned champion.

The other results of the last day of the players from the province of Holguin who competed in this grouping were: Randy MacFarlane, drew with FM Manuel Charon. Yadel Acosta defeated Javier Borges. Dairenis Guerrero defeated Luis Roberto Rodriguez (Guatemala) and Roisbel Marrero was unpaired in the last round.

After computing these results and applying the tie-breaker system, Randy was ninth, Yadel tenth and Roisbel fifteenth, all with 5.5 points. While Dairenis was the third best placed female. Also concluded in 32nd place overall with 4.0 units.
