Kindergartens, 64 years in the care of education and values

Since their creation in 1961, children‘s centers in Cuba have been a primary institution in the country’s educational and social system. As they not only offer a safe and stimulating space for the development of the youngest members of the house. But also represent a pillar in the support structure for working mothers.

Over 64 years, these educational centers have contributed significantly and uninterruptedly to the care and comprehensive training of infants. Promoting human and civic values that are fundamental to the well-being of society.

One of the most significant contributions of the kindergartens is their orientation towards an inclusive education with a humanistic approach. At the same time, they promote important habits and skills in different areas of knowledge from an early age.

They also provide active learning environments that not only lead to children’s cognitive development. But also to their emotional and social well-being. Promoting principles such as responsibility, honesty, solidarity, respect and cooperation. Which are decisive in the construction of a just society.

Kindergartens have also played a crucial role in promoting gender equality. Enabling Cuban women to integrate into the labour market with the guarantee that their children are protected and cared for by trained professionals. Who ensure their healthy growth and in turn educate them for a full and happy life.

In more than four decades they have assumed an invaluable social and pedagogical role for the Cuban family. Despite the difficult economic situation that the country is going through. They have not closed their doors, maintaining the commitment to their founding principles.

Of the more than 1300 educational centers that make up the educational network of the province of Holguin, 65 are kindergartens. Which this April 10 celebrate, throughout the country, their 64th anniversary.

This celebration is also joined by the 23 existing children’s houses. Covered by Resolution 58/2021 of the Ministry of Education. According to official data in Cuba there are more than 1,100 kindergartens.
