The German Association for Humanitarian Aid to Cuba (Humanitäre Cuba hilfe – HCH) received the 65th Anniversary Distinction of ICAP. Which the Holguin delegation, in charge of friendship and solidarity with the peoples. Previously presented to the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando González Llort and the Victoria Group, from Canada.

The commemorative logo – for the founding date of ICAP, next December – was accompanied by a reproduction of the work “The star that illuminates and kills”. By the outstanding Holguin plastic artist, Dayami Pupo Ávila, who has made available to ICAP part of her collection. Inspired by Martí’s thought. In this case he refers to one of his free verses, entitled “Yoke and Star”, which the Apostle wrote when he was 25 years old (1878).

This special recognition for the 29 years of support for Cuba, was received by the worthy representatives of the solidarity group. Gisela and Heinz Rudnick, from the hands of Lupe Isabel Fernández Ramírez, delegate of ICAP in this eastern province, which they are visiting these days.

The HCH was founded in 1996, in the German city of Bochum, where its coordinator and founder. Dr. Klaus Piel, a man passionate about the subject of Cuba, resides, managing to join the efforts of organizations, institutions and individuals from German society and other European countries.

Whose financial and material donations have allowed to send to the island. Since then, 120 containers with essential resources for the health sector, which suffers the consequences of the cruel U.S. blockade, which exceeds 60 years of tax and has been systematically intensified.

The charismatic Gisela Rudnick and Heinz, her life partner, with whom she shares this noble and selfless total dedication to the Cuban cause, distinguished in a special way their leader, Dr. Klaus Piel, who has been inspiring, promoting and defending the Association Humanitarian Aid to Cuba. Using his home as a center of direction, assisted by an efficient Board of Directors, members of the group, who reside in the surroundings and the effective use of the Internet.

They explained that the network of donors and collaborators is extensive, covering a large number of cities, and the reception of resources is done in a rented warehouse. Near Klaus’ home, including other materials for use by the elderly. In this warehouse there are the necessary means for the movement of large packages, which are placed in containers for shipment to Cuba, through Mariel.

The provinces benefited from these shipments, to date, are Pinar del Río, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo and during the last two years six containers were also sent, mainly with medical material, to the Quisicuaba community socio-cultural project, which defends and promotes identity, history and culture, in the municipality of Centro Habana.

This project emerged in Key West, at the end of the 1980s, at the initiative of Fidel Castro, to strengthen the responsible participation of the community, in favor of health, education, values and identity, together with the sectors in charge of sustainable local development.

The meeting with Gisela and Heinz, at the Holguin headquarters of ICAP, was interesting, where Lupe Isabel and Yamila, delegate and specialist of the institution, respectively, recognized the historical relations between Germany and Cuba; how the solidarity movement has grown, with the participation of Cubans living in different cities of that country, where Klaus publishes interesting articles, which he sends to many people.

Finally, it was necessary to know some details about the visiting friends, united in marriage for 39 years and for the cause they defend. She is, intelligent, charismatic and very loquacious, said that, when the Nicaraguan Revolution triumphed, she visited that country, where she traveled from Spain, where she studied the Spanish language. She supported agricultural work and, unfortunately, she contracted malaria.

In a Nicaraguan health center she was treated by a Cuban doctor, who did not accept any remuneration and then decided that at the first opportunity she should visit the island. That is breathed and the simplicity of the people. She has worked for more than thirty years as an English and Spanish teacher.

He, an electrical engineer, also retired, with very little command of our our language, but with a personal history of commitment to his country, his people and the just Cuban cause. Through them, the delegate of ICAP and her specialist, sent a very special greeting to Dr. Klaus Piel, coordinator of the HCH Project, for his total and selfless dedication to the actions sustained, for 29 years, to friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people.
